So…this week on Theme Thursday is all about the book of face….oops I mean FaceBook
I typically laugh when people get so upset over Facebook and I do not get the uproar. Yes I know it can be full of crazy stories that can easily be proven wrong, many political meme’s that I roll my eyes at most, cute pictures of cats and of course many statuses that tell me a bit too much than I should know about a few people. But really….who cares? On the other hand I have been able to keep in touch with so many friends (mind you I was a Marine wife for 20 years so that meant a lot of moving) , family members and at the same time keep an eye on my teens lives.
I enjoy Facebook but then again, I may just have some awesome friends. Which I really do…….I have so many witty and intelligent friends, I look forward to what they have to say. We can have good debates at times, share hard times and just keep in touch with those I do not live close to anymore.
I think I read a tweet once (yes I am on twitter too) that said something like Facebook is where you are “friends” with all your high school buddies you didn’t even like then and twitter are those you really want to go have a beer with and hang out. Okay I am sure that was over the 140 limit but I was paraphrasing. I do not see it that way in between my two social medias. Yes on Facebook I have MANY high school friends but I really do like that. I can also say that when any of us have had something major going on in our lives, every single one of them step up to support the other. Like right now I have a friend I knew in middle and high school and we reconnected when she found out she had a brain tumor. Part of my LiveStrong ride was to honor her. All of us…who are now scattered across the globe….are there to support her. We all have different careers and know other people who may just be able to help as well. I think that is wonderful. Then again I only had 100 in my graduating class and we were all pretty close.
Family…..probably the trickiest area for me. My mom…..oh my sweet sweet mom. She gets so confused on there and posts private things on my wall but you know what….I don’t care. My only issue is I still have my ex-mother-in-law on there but I use the handy custom buttons so she cannot see anything I do not want her too Win win for me
Facebook to me is a bigger area to really share. Since I do photography and art, it is a place I can show more than one image at a time. Now doing it on Facebook has caused other friends to share my work and guess what? People they know then offer me money for my photos or art. Really? I can’t complain about that.
So in the end, I think it is what you make of any social network. I love the people I accept as friends on Facebook and truly enjoy interacting with them. If I didn’t want to speak to them, why would I add them to begin with. I have school friends, Marine journey friends, old teachers and professors, work buddies and family. I care about each of them so even if we differ on political issues or they share a post that isn’t true….who cares?
Here is even a little peek of my Facebook world…..I just realized all the tabs I had open. hahahahaha Also, my Facebook is pretty awesome tonight because I posted a video of me and a co-worker rocking out the Cup Song at work. Yeah….we are that cool and that is why we are Facebook friends.
